This is a customer-facing cashier role focused on point-of-sale service, transaction accuracy, and safe cash handling in a busy pharmacy retail environment. The role supports customer service while following strict operating procedures aimed at reducing errors and fraud risk.
What you’ll do / learn
You’ll handle day-to-day till operations, customer payments, loyalty transactions, and customer queries while working within Dis-Chem’s service and security procedures. The role also includes cash control, returns handling, and store support at the point of sale.
- Adhere to Dis-Chem’s customer service policies and procedures
- Build professional relationships with customers
- Report complaints and compliments to the Frontline Supervisor or store management
- Maintain the customer turnover hourly rate
- Stay aware of current sales and promotions
- Carry out Dis-Chem 5-star communication principles
- Manage cash flow responsibly
- Ensure line voids and price changes are approved and signed off
- Exchange authorised merchandise and process customer returns
- Process payments including cash, cards, vouchers, and coupons
- Process loyalty cards, including partner loyalty programmes
- Ensure cash is placed in the drop safe according to SOPs
- Keep your code and password secure
- Ensure all outgoing stock/items/scripts are scanned and paid for
- Keep money safe and secure inside the till
- Handle daily takings confidentially
- Report suspicious behaviour to management
- Address queries about store merchandise
- Follow Dis-Chem’s security policies and procedures

Eligibility requirements
- Grade 12 / Matric
- Minimum 6 months’ cashier/till operations experience
- Computer literate (MS Office)
