What the position involves
The Buyers Assistant supports Shoprite’s buying strategy and commercial objectives by completing administrative, pricing and data-processing activities accurately and efficiently.
The role works closely with Buyers and Planners and communicates with suppliers, vendors, distribution centres and stores to resolve queries and maintain accurate product and pricing information.

Main duties and responsibilities
- Load accurate product costs for distribution centres.
- Help enable efficient stock ordering by Planners.
- Calculate pricing for different units of measure.
- Maintain accurate pack sizes, costs and unit sale prices.
- Check cost and sales-price data captured by Buyers and Planners.
- Identify and correct pricing or data errors.
- Capture and maintain retail pricing.
- Resolve store queries involving stock issues and errors.
- Assist with consumer enquiries and inter-branch transfers.
- Support order placement.
- Maintain records of newly listed products in SAP Buying.
- Assist with product ranging, deranging, markdowns and discontinuations.
- File invoices, costing documents and supplier records.
- Produce purchasing reports.
- Monitor key performance indicators and escalate concerns.
Minimum requirements
- Grade 12 certificate.
- At least one year of experience in a similar buying or planning support role.
- Retail buying experience is preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Ability to prepare spreadsheets using formulas.
- Strong numerical and data-processing ability.
- Accurate financial calculations and data capturing.
- Excellent organisational and prioritisation skills.
- Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
- Fluency in written and spoken English.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
Advantageous experience
- Experience within a retail buying environment.
