Learnership Cover Letter (No Experience): 3 Templates + Examples

Many learnership applications ask for a short cover letter, motivation letter, or “tell us why you want this learnership” message. If you have no work experience, that’s okay — your cover letter should focus on your interest, willingness to learn, and basic workplace readiness.

Use the templates below and adjust the details to match the learnership advert.

Before You Start (Quick Rules)

  • Keep it short: 150–250 words (about half a page)
  • Use a professional tone
  • Mention the exact learnership name (and reference number if provided)
  • Don’t copy-paste the same letter for every application — change at least 2–3 lines to match the company and role
  • Save as PDF if uploading, or paste into the application form if required

File name tip:

  • Name_Surname_CoverLetter.pdf

What to Include (Simple Checklist)

A good entry-level learnership cover letter usually includes:

  • Who you are (name, surname, gender, age)
  • What are your qualifications and where are you based (Matric / qualification + location)
  • What you’re applying for (programme name + company)
  • Why you want it (career direction + interest in the field)
  • Why they should consider you (skills, attitude, reliability)
  • Availability + documents included
