What you’ll do / learn

You’ll gain practical exposure to merchandising, customer service, stock control, point-of-sale support, and store housekeeping in a pharmacy retail environment.

  • Ensure full ranges of products are on the shelves and neatly presented
  • Check shelf stock to make sure products have not reached their sell-by date
  • Restock merchandise when needed to support sales
  • Follow up on out-of-stock customer queries in line with store procedures
  • Ensure delivered stock and storeroom stock are stored in the correct space
  • Check that displays, labels, and pricing are correct and report discrepancies
  • Keep the storeroom organised, neat, and tidy
  • Keep up to date with new product knowledge to assist customers effectively
  • Assist with back shopping when required
  • Handle merchandise carefully to prevent losses
  • Process purchases and payments including cash, cards, vouchers, and coupons
  • Exchange merchandise and accept authorised returns
  • Process loyalty cards including accelerated partner cards
  • Ensure accurate cash flow and correct drop-safe procedures
  • Help with stock rotation, stock counting, and general stocktaking
  • Report low, damaged, expired, or out-of-stock items to management
  • Assist with loading and off-loading stock when needed
  • Flatten boxes after unpacking and move them to the designated area
  • Provide friendly, helpful, and courteous assistance to customers
  • Report compliments, complaints, and suspicious behaviour to management
  • Maintain housekeeping in line with Dis-Chem standards
  • Follow company policies, SOPs, and health and safety rules

Essential requirements

  • Grade 12 / Matric or Senior Certificate
  • 0–6 months retail work experience
  • Knowledge of retail operations and administration
  • Ability to address customer questions in a timely manner
  • Ability to follow procedures and escalate issues correctly
  • Basic understanding of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
  • Willing and able to work retail hours
  • South African citizen
  • Clear credit and criminal record

Advantageous

  • 1 year work experience within retail
  • Basic computer skills in Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Numerical skills and SAP exposure
