Retail learnerships can be especially useful when they combine practical store exposure with recognised training rather than only offering short-term shop-floor work. This Learnership (W&R SETA funded) at Pepkor Lifestyle is aimed at young South Africans who want a structured 12-month opportunity to build customer service, sales, stock-control, and retail operations experience across leading retail brands.

What this opportunity is
This is a 12-month Wholesale & Retail SETA funded learnership designed to help young people enter the world of work. Pepkor Lifestyle says successful candidates will gain experience in several areas of wholesale and retail while developing their potential across brands such as HiFi Corp, Incredible Connection, Bradlows, Sleepmasters, Russells, and Rochester.
Note: This is more than a general retail job opening. The structure of the advert shows it is meant as a formal learnership with both practical store exposure and basic learning components such as English, maths, point-of-sale work, merchandising, and stock-loss control.

What this role really means
A retail learnership like this usually means learning how the store works from the ground up rather than only observing other people work. In practice, that can include helping customers, maintaining displays, understanding how payments are processed, and learning how stock-loss control and account opening fit into day-to-day retail operations. If you are applying, it helps to show that you are ready to learn and comfortable being active on the shop floor.

Quick tips for this application
- Make your Matric qualification easy to identify near the top of your CV
- If you do not have formal work experience, include school leadership, volunteer work, church work, or customer-facing informal experience
- Keep your CV simple and retail-focused rather than trying to make it sound overly corporate
- If you have any exposure to customer service, stock handling, or sales support, mention it clearly
- Upload certified documents carefully, because the advert says candidates who successfully send their documents will receive first consideration
Mistakes to avoid
- Applying without certified documents
- Leaving out your Matric qualification details
- Submitting unclear or unreadable certified copies
- Using a CV that says very little about customer-facing ability or willingness to learn
- Ignoring the disability document requirement if applying under that category
