What this opportunity is
This is a short-term general worker role in a logistics/dispatch environment. The focus is on ensuring vehicles are loaded/off-loaded correctly at customer receiving points and that crates are washed, separated, and supplied to departments as needed, while maintaining housekeeping, safety, and basic reporting standards.
What you’ll do / learn
You’ll gain practical exposure to dispatch and product-handling routines, including safe loading/off-loading, crate washing procedures, and basic checks/reporting that support daily operations.
- Load and off-load stock at customer receiving points and on site
- Load and off-load crates and confirm correct deliveries by comparing stock to invoices
- Support crate washing: separate clean and dirty crates, top up water where required, and report issues
- Help ensure production has sufficient crates available
- Maintain good housekeeping and keep truck load-bin floors clean
- Follow safety programmes, PPE rules, and workplace safety guidelines (including confined space safety where applicable)
- Report food safety/quality issues to management immediately
- Report crate-washer and pallet jack/trolley faults to your line manager
- Record totals (e.g., crates washed per customer and damages found)
- Work shifts as required and assist with delivery vehicles or crate washing depending on operational needs
Note: This is a fixed-term job vacancy and not a learnership. Appointment depends on the employer’s recruitment process.
Eligibility requirements
- Matric
- Able to read and write
- Computer literacy is an advantage
- Comfortable handling products/crates and following labelling and storage practices
- Basic maths and warehouse/logistics understanding (helpful)
- Able to work independently and as part of a team
