SGS – Health and Safety Intern

SGS is offering an internship in the Health and Safety department where interns will gain practical work experience in reporting hazards, conducting inspections, and supporting the implementation of Health and Safety (H&S) programs. Interns will assist in the facilitation of risk assessments, schedule H&S trainings, and promote HSE awareness across the site. This role provides an excellent opportunity to build competencies in health and safety management, HSE regulations, and effective communication within a professional work environment.

Program Offerings

Position: Health and Safety Intern
Business Unit/Division: SGS
Contract Type: Internship (12 months)
Location: Randfontein, South Africa

Key Responsibilities

  • Report hazards, near misses, and incidents
  • Monitor and report monthly H&S KPIs
  • Assist with H&S inspections and training requirements
  • Support the implementation of HSE programs
  • Conduct H&S inductions and onboarding
  • Promote HSE awareness campaigns
  • Participate in internal & external H&S audits and site visits
  • Ensure adherence to SGS safety standards

Eligibility Criteria

  • SAMTRAC (completed or in progress)
  • HSE short courses (advantageous)
  • South African citizen (valid ID required)
  • Aged between 18–30 years
  • Currently unemployed
  • No criminal record
  • Willing to relocate to Randfontein

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong research and organizational skills
  • Self-motivated with initiative
  • Ability to work independently and within a team
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
