Sasol is recruiting a Learner Draughtsperson to develop foundational draughting competencies through structured workplace learning while supporting the draughting office with accurate, standardised mine plans aligned to Sasol Mining Draughting Standards and Mine Health and Safety Act Regulation 17.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in producing CAD drawings in Bentley MicroStation/OpenCities to Sasol standards.
  • Update statutory mine plans (e.g., miner/working, section, ventilation Reg 17, colliery working, escape routes, travelling roads, belts, reticulation, ground conditions, subsidence).
  • Apply correct symbology, scales, legends, and naming conventions per the Draughting Standards SOP.
  • Support conversion of spatial information into intelligent CAD/GIS datasets and preparation for the Mining GIS Portal.
  • Capture and maintain features such as mined-out areas, geological and ventilation structures, and hazard areas.
  • Participate in dataset clean-ups, daily work allocation meetings, and provide progress feedback.
  • Adhere to Safety Management Systems (IMS, MBO), conduct task risk assessments, and maintain good housekeeping.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement by identifying drawing and workflow efficiencies.

Eligibility Criteria

  • High School / School Diploma (Matric or equivalent).
  • CAD certificate or tertiary modules in Engineering Drawing/Draughting advantageous.
  • 0+ years’ relevant experience (entry level).
  • Exposure to or interest in CAD/GIS, spatial data handling, and mining plans is beneficial.
  • Safety conscious with understanding of Regulation 17 statutory plan requirements (training provided).
