Key Responsibilities
- Deliver customer service at the point of sale and maintain professional customer interactions.
- Process customer transactions accurately on the Dis-Chem operating system, following policies and SOPs.
- Manage cash flow responsibly and ensure secure cash handling, including drop safe procedures.
- Ensure voids and price changes are authorised and signed off by a supervisor.
- Process refunds/returns and merchandise exchanges when authorised.
- Process loyalty cards and partner programmes (e.g., Discovery, Momentum Multiply, ABSA Rewards, eBucks, etc.).
- Maintain awareness of promotions and support customer queries on store merchandise.
- Follow turnover/hourly rate expectations and adhere to service communication standards (5-star principles).
- Apply security procedures to prevent losses, ensure outgoing items are scanned/paid for, and report suspicious behaviour.
- Keep takings confidential and comply with Dis-Chem security and customer service procedures.
Attributes Required
- High accuracy and attention to detail with zero tolerance for transaction errors.
- Trustworthy, honest, and accountable with strong cash-handling discipline.
- Strong English communication skills (written and spoken).
- Presentable, customer-focused, and emotionally mature with good social awareness.
- Able to manage time effectively and remain calm under pressure.
- Basic ability to analyse simple reports and follow structured retail procedures.
Eligibility Criteria
Essential:
- Grade 12 / Matric.
- Minimum 6 months cashier/till operations experience.
- Computer literate (MS Office).
- Sound numerical skills.
- Strong command of English.
- Basic customer service capability.
- Willing and able to work retail hours.
Special Conditions of Employment:
- Reliable transport and/or live close to the store.
- South African citizen.
- Clear credit and criminal records.
Advantageous:
- Third additional language.
