We’re offering a 12-month Health Promotion Officer (HPO) learnership that combines professional work experience, training, and a qualification.

Learnership Description

At WHH, our goal is to provide formerly unemployed youth with a chance to gain valuable work experience, training, and a qualification in the healthcare field.

Upon completing this 12-month program, you’ll earn an NQF Level 3 Health Promotion Officer (HPO) qualification (SAQA ID No: 94597), setting you on a path to a rewarding career in healthcare.

Location

This learnership will be based in the Jabulani Dlab Precinct at 0229 Isikwama Street, Jabulani, Soweto.

Key Performance Areas

During this learnership, you will:

  • Conduct basic health assessments for households in Soweto.
  • Provide basic health education and referrals for a limited range of services.
  • Support and assist in navigating the health and social services system.
  • Gather research data for national and international studies.
  • Take measurements of vital signs in adults: temperature, pulse, respiration rate, blood pressure, and anthropometry.

Minimum Requirements for Application

To be eligible for this learnership, you should:

  • Be youth aged 18 to 29 years old.
  • Reside in Soweto.
  • Have a Matric certificate.
  • Possess basic computer literacy.

Additional Requirements

In addition to the minimum requirements, please note:

  • You should not be currently employed, in education, or undergoing training.
  • You must commit to the full 12-month programme.
  • You should be mobile enough to execute work within the community.
  • Adequate visual and hearing capacity is required to master the envisaged skills.
  • Previous experience in health, counselling, or community work is advantageous but not a requirement.
