The Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University (SMU) is excited to offer internship opportunities as part of the Presidential Youth Employment Stimulus (PYES) Programme, facilitated by the Department of Higher Education and Training.

What is the PYES Programme?

The PYES Programme is a government initiative, coordinated through the Presidency, designed to create temporary employment opportunities for young graduates.

These opportunities not only provide employment but also offer valuable experience that enhances readiness for future careers.

POME Department Interns

  • Qualifications: Diploma or Degree in Business Studies, Management Assistant, or Office Administration

Finance Department Interns

  • Qualifications: Diploma or Degree in Financial Management, Accounting, Commerce, Supply Chain, Business Studies, Management Assistant, or Office Administration

Human Resources Department Interns

  • Qualifications: Diploma or Degree in Human Resource Management, Human Resource Development, Labour Relations, or Employee Relations

Communications and Marketing Department Interns

  • Qualifications: Diploma or Degree in Public Relations, Communication, Media Studies, Journalism, Graphic Design, Sound Engineering, or Journalism

Enrolment Section: Post Graduate Studies Interns

  • Qualifications: Diploma or Degree in Business Studies, Management Assistant, Office Administration, Bachelor of Social Sciences, Bachelor of Arts (Anthropology/Sociology), BSc (in any field of Science)

Who Can Apply?

To be part of this program, you need to:

  • Be between the ages of 18 and 35.
  • Not be studying full time.
  • Be a South African citizen.
  • Not have participated in any previous learnership or internship program.
  • Be willing to sign an internship agreement with SMU.
  • Be available for a six-month period.

How to Apply

If you meet the requirements and are excited about these opportunities, here’s how to apply:

  1. Prepare the following documents:
    • A detailed curriculum vitae and cover letter.
    • Two testimonials.
    • Certified copies (not older than 6 months) of all academic records or confirmation of completion.
    • Certified copies (not older than 6 months) of qualifications (please provide the SAQA accreditation in the case of foreign qualifications).
    • A certified copy (not older than 6 months) of your identity document (ID).
    • Proof of registration with a Professional Body (If Applicable).
    • A copy of your driverā€™s licence (if applicable).
  2.
