SARB & BER Economist Internship 2023-2024

The South African Reserve Bank (SARB) and the Bureau for Economic Research have partnered with the University of Stellenbosch to establish the economist internship program for 2023.

This internship will be aimed at helping postgraduate students complete their studies.

The internship will give qualified students the practical training to thrive as professional economists.

Candidates will be able to gain solid work experience and training paired with their qualifications, making them valuable assets in the economic field.

Deadline

The SARB & GER Economist Internship will not be accepting applications after 27 June 2022.

Please ensure that your application is in by then along with any requested support documents that the organization will require.

Failure to do so will result in your application being dismissed from the selection process.

Location

This internship will be held in Stellenbosch, Cape Town.

What is SARB & GER?

The South African Reserve Bank has been in operation since 1921.

It is considered the central bank of South Africa and is responsible for the production of the country’s currency, the South African Rand.

The Bureau of Economic Research is one of the longest-standing institutions in the country. It has made a name for itself with its economic research and forecasting at the University of Stellenbosch.

What is Saint-Gobain Africa Internship?

This internship will provide candidates with practical training that will be a big asset to them in the field of business-orientated macroeconomic analysis.

A successful candidate will be employed by the SARB and spend 1 year of employment training under the BER. Please be aware :

  • Recruitment will take place in the months of May and June 2022.
  • Interviews will be held in the months of July and August 2022.
  • The internship will commence in January 2023 and end in December 2023.

The program will shortlist ideal candidates. From there, these shortlisted candidates will need to undergo a psychometric analysis, as well as a reference check and security clearance.

Candidates will be chosen based on the SARB’s pledge to bring diversity to its workforce.

Requirements

Before you send in your application for this internship, please make sure that you meet the following requirements set by the internship provider:

  • Applicants must be South African citizens.
  • Applicants must have completed an Honours or Masters degree in Economics (or will complete it by January 2023) with Macroeconomics as a subject at a post-graduate level.
  • Applicants must be fluent in English.
  • Applicants must have excellent communication skills.
  • Applicants must have excellent writing skills.
