The Internship Program

The African Development Bank’s Internship Program is a unique opportunity for students to gain professional experience.

While it doesn’t guarantee immediate employment, it provides valuable insights and skills for your future career.


The program aims to:

  • Provide students with practical experience at the Bank.
  • Create a pool of potential candidates for future recruitment.
  • Align with the Bank’s Ten-Year Strategy and High 5s objectives.

Fields of Study

Interns are selected from various fields of study relevant to the Bank’s operations, including Economics, Agriculture, Private Sector Development, Human Capital Development, Environment, Finance, and more.

Special consideration is given to projects aligned with the Bank’s mission.

Session 1 Timeline

The 2024 Internship Program, Session I, will start in January 2024.

Terms and Conditions

  • Internships last from three to six months, and each candidate can participate only once.
  • Interns may work on-site or remotely, depending on the hiring unit’s needs.
  • On-site interns are responsible for their travel costs.
  • The Bank assists interns in obtaining entry and residence visas.
  • Eligible interns receive medical insurance and a monthly stipend.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for this internship, you must:

  • Be between 18 and 30 years old.
  • Be enrolled in a master’s level degree program.
  • Apply within one year of obtaining your degree.
  • Be a national of an African Development Bank member country.
  • Be fluent in English or French.
  • Have proficiency in standard software packages (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access); knowledge of SAP is desirable.
